# ChatGPT Business adds a $125 Premium seat with 5x the usage

> OpenAI is adding Premium seats to ChatGPT Business at $125 per user per month, with five times the usage of a Standard seat and no five-hour limit. Standard stays at $25. Per unit of usage the price is the same, so the…

On 10 August, OpenAI announced a second kind of seat for ChatGPT Business, its plan for small teams. Premium seats cost $125 per user per month, or $100 per month when billed annually. Standard seats stay at $25 per user per month, or $20 billed annually.

OpenAI says the most common request from Business customers was a seat with more room for heavy users. At the time of the announcement Premium was opening through a waitlist, with general availability still to come.

## What the extra money buys

A Premium seat gets five times the usage of a Standard seat, removes the five-hour usage limit and resets on a predictable weekly schedule. Both seat types can live in the same workspace, so an owner can give Premium to the one person who runs long analyses or uses Codex, OpenAI's coding agent, all day, and keep everyone else on Standard. Seats can be upgraded or reassigned later. If a team still hits a limit, the workspace owner can buy shared workspace credits.

## The math on one seat

At monthly prices, one Premium seat costs the same as five Standard seats, and OpenAI says it gives five times the usage of one Standard seat. So the cost per unit of usage does not change. What changes is that the five-hour limit goes away for that person, and the usage sits on one account instead of being split across several.

There is also a launch offer. The first 10,000 eligible Business customers who join the waitlist get $100 in workspace credits, which OpenAI counts as 2,500 credits, for each Premium seat they add, up to five seats. The waitlist has to be joined with the email of the workspace owner, and the offer ends on 20 August.

## What to do this week

Open the usage view in your Business workspace and look for the people who hit the five-hour limit. If nobody does, Standard seats are still the cheaper way to give everyone access. If one or two people hit it often, they are the candidates for Premium, and the credit offer means the owner should decide before 20 August.

## What we think

This is a sensible way to price a team plan, because usage inside a team is rarely even. We would still check the numbers before upgrading anyone: the five-hour limit is the real thing being sold here, and only the usage history of your own workspace can tell you whether anyone runs into it.
